Waste Characterization Fieldwork

The Texas Sustainable Energy Research Institute partnered with Joint Base San Antonio to do a waste characterization study for all three San Antonio military bases. The project took place September 11th through September 20th and was a two week study on the trash produced by Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, and Randolph. The three military bases are home to 8,000 personnel and collectively support a population of 80,000 people. The project created fieldwork opportunities for UTSA undergraduate and graduate students from all fields of study. The project was completed in September 2013. The Institute looks forward to working on additional phases of the JBSA Waste to Energy project with Joint Base San Antonio.
