Dr. David Restrepo is currently an Assistant Professor in the department of mechanical at UTSA. He received his B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad EAFIT (Medellin, Colombia) and later completed his Ph.D. at Purdue University. Prior joining UTSA, Dr. Restrepo was a postdoctoral fellow in the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. His main research interest is in the area of architectured materials, with the aim of designing new materials that exhibit unprecedented mechanical properties and functionalities. To achieve this goal, Dr. Restrepo combines computational simulations, theoretical analysis, fabrication, and experimental testing. His main applications of interest are in broad areas including sustainability, defense, civil infrastructure, mechanical engineering, and aerospace engineering.
