‘Newer’ Energy Economy of the Legalized Marijuana Industry

The legalization of marijuana has become a topic commonly discussed accross the country. As of July 2016, 5 states have legalized the recreational use of marijuana and 36 have legalized it's medical use. With more states legalizing its use, the sustainability of energy used for its production needs to be considered. Marijuana production is one of the most energy-intensive of the major industries since it requires air conditioning, dehumidifyers, special lighting, and a high quantity of water. By legalizing the production, taxation and new regulations could limit the damage caused to the environment.
